Custody and Community Programme closed 30 November 2011

As part of wider changes to our strategy, our Custody and Community Programme closed on the 30 November 2011.  The Foundation has been working in the criminal justice system for more than twenty years, and we have helped fund many innovative services that have gone on to be regarded as best practice. This work has convinced us that people who face severe and multiple disadvantage need to be supported to avoid the criminal justice system altogether, and that our efforts and resources need to be concentrated at an early stage in their lives and in the system. We have therefore decided to develop a Special Initiative which will focus on ways of addressing severe and multiple disadvantage before people are drawn into offending. Details will be announced in Summer 2012.  The Foundation will continue to work with partners on diverting women from the criminal justice system through the Corston Independent Funders’ Coalition.

Applications for continuation funding from certain current grantees in the field of immigration detention may be accepted after the 30th November.  Please contact the Programme Director, Cathy Stancer, for more information.
